ASQ International Team Excellence Award, 2015 Finalists

“Project Ioverhaul”, is the story of how global demand for Optiray contrast agent surged unexpectedly, and an immediate response was needed. A C&E matrix, affinity chart, and pareto analysis were utilized to identify time-to-test as an opportunity; then Voice of the Customer surveys, Waste Walk, and an Effort-Impact Matrix were used to construct a classic PDCA improvement scheme.

Results showed reduction in lab delays beyond expectations — yielding reduced backorders, $250K cost-avoidance, improved customer relations, and support of Mallinckrodt’s zero-defect culture!

ASQ’s International Team Excellence Award recognizes teams from all industries for their achievements in improving business performance.  Since 1985, more than 1,100 teams from around the world have participated, showing how they have saved millions by reducing waste and inefficiencies, through successful use of quality concepts, technology, and tools.  This is the third year that a team from the Mallinckrodt St. Louis plant has made it into the finals of the ITEA Competition.
