How to Prepare and Successfully Complete Almost Any Difficult Conversation

Do you dread difficult conversations?  Hate giving…or receiving performance appraisals? Cringe before facing a tough interaction with a sub…or a general contractor?  If so, you are not alone!

Join us as we talk about how to prepare and successfully complete almost any difficult conversation! We’ll discuss what makes a conversation difficult, learn the pre-work we all need to undertake before starting a difficult conversation, and practice a few. By the end of the session, we’ll acquire some new negotiation techniques to move projects, and maybe even people forward.

Mary Sue Love, Ph.D.

Mary Sue Love is an Associate Professor in the Department of Management and Marketing at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.  She holds a Ph.D. in organizational behavior and theory with minors in social psychology and organizational communication from the University of Missouri, as well as an M.B.A. and a B.B.A. in management and organizational behavior from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.  Before returning to school for her Ph.D., Mary Sue worked in the insurance industry, holding positions in underwriting, provider relations, and customer service.

Research interests include improving interpersonal relationships at work, organizational citizenship behavior, and improving online learning outcomes.  Her work has been published in Decision Sciences Journal of Innovative Education, The International Journal of Human Resource Management, Journal of Leadership and Organizational Studies, Career Development International, Journal of Applied Psychology

Dr. Love is involved in the Academy of Management and International Ombudsman Association and serves on the Ombuds Committee for the Academy.
